Police Chief Shoots Self at Gun Training Session

Posted in Police Stupidity, Utah Police on May 5th, 2008

RIVERDALE, Utah
The police chief in Riverdale accidentally shot himself in an ankle while demonstrating how to dislodge a jammed handgun.

Chief Dave Hansen was taken to McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden for surgery.

The 54-year-old chief accidentally fired a gun during a training exercise inside a conference room at Riverdale police headquarters.

A fire captain and Riverdale Mayor Bruce Burrows confirmed the chief shot himself Saturday in an ankle bone. They said he was trying to fix a gun with a jammed round when the bullet fired.

Riverdale police officers carry .40-caliber pistols.

Hospital supervisor Rohn Larsen said Hansen was in stable condition Sunday. Larsen said he couldn’t reveal which ankle — left or right — the chief shot.

A Weber County dispatcher said nobody from the Riverdale police department was available Sunday to release any information on the accident. A patrol officer on duty Sunday said he didn’t know anything about it.

The chief’s brother, a state lawmaker, said Hansen is a 23-year veteran and chief of the Riverdale police force since 2006.

Rep. Neil Hansen, D-Ogden, said he regularly goes target practicing with his brother and described him as safety-conscious.

“I’ve never seen him do anything reckless,” Neil Hansen told the Standard-Examiner of Ogden.

A police officer in Hazelwood will have to pay $18,000 dollars for getting into it with a firefighter while he was trying to help an accident victim.

His attorney says he’s disappointed and that his client’s conduct was not malicious in any way.

Police dash cam video shows the Hazelwood police officer arresting a fire captain while he’s trying to move an injured driver.

It happened on Interstate 270 back in May of 2003.

Officer Todd Greeves wanted a fire truck moved to open up another lane of traffic.

The Robertson Fire Protection District Captain wanted the truck there to protect emergency workers.

Cop gets in gun fight with ANOTHER Cop from different Police Department!!

BUFORD, GA

What would drive an officer of the law to open up gunfire on another cop?

That’s the question Gwinnett County police are now trying to answer after a Duluth officer exchanged gunfire with a Fulton County policeman near North Gwinett High School Feb. 1.

Both men are expected to recover from their injuries.

Officer Jay Daily, 42, of Sugar Hill, a five-year veteran of the Duluth department and the alleged shooter, has been suspended pending a Gwinnett County Police investigation into the case. He is in Gwinnett County Jail, charged with four counts of aggravated assault after allegedly shooting a uniformed Fulton County Police officer.

“At this time a motive has not been established,” said Illana Spellman of the Gwinnett County Police Department. “The investigation is still underway and could take a month or up to several months.”

Gwinnett police said Paul Phillips, a Fulton County police officer, was driving a marked police car on Level Creek Road while on his way home when he was flagged down by a citizen just after 1 p.m. The citizen said there was an altercation up the road.

When Phillips approached the suspects, he saw a man standing next to a stopped vehicle. Then the man, later identified as Daily, began shooting at Phillips.

Phillips returned fire and struck Daily.

Both men, as well as an unidentified person in the stopped vehicle, were taken to Gwinnett Medical Center and treated for non-life threatening injuries. Phillips required surgery for his injuries and, at press time, remains at the hospital.

“Everyone around here is stunned and shocked,” said Donald Woodruff, a spokesman for Duluth Police. “In my 30 years of law enforcement I have never seen anything like this.”

Woodruff said Daily never had any disciplinary action during his five years serving Duluth, and that this was a “total shock.” Duluth Police will conduct an administrative investigation once Gwinnett Police’s investigation is complete, he said.

“We cannot investigate this case now because Daily was off-duty and thus treated like any other citizen, and because this case happened outside of the city,” Woodruff said.

A 15-year veteran of the Fulton County Police force, Phillips is currently assigned to the evening watch traffic unit. He mainly works in Johns Creek.

If convicted of charges, Daily could face 20 years in prison.

Police Raid Utah’s Happy Valley Tattoo and Steal Artist’s Art Off the Walls

This painting along with my art & tattoo portfolio spent four days locked up in the evidence room at the American Fork Police Station. The search warrant gave them permission to only take photographs of pierced or tattoo genitals. As this painting is neither of these items of interest, they have illegally seized my personal property.

Upon the return of this painting my husband was warned that he should not let me display this art publicly again in Utah.

I am not one to comply with an unfair and illegal mandate by anyone - So it went back up into public view - As seen here, two days later. However, some pieces of my portfolio are still locked up in the evidence room after 15 days. I am not being investigated for or being charged with any crime. I just happened to have had my art in the studio the day they raided us.

Why did they raid us?

To make a long story short, a vindictive teenager lied about us.

We do not know all of the details but we suspect it was to get her out of some fix she had gotten into around Christmas time and to get revenge on our piercer who refused her service. All we know for sure, is that her father made a complaint that she had been allowed access to clinical photographs of genital piercings in our studio. Which could only have happened when his estranged wife brought her here to get her lip pierced in April of 2007. (Even if their allegations were true, this is still not and illegal act based on the descriptions of what are obscene materials set by the Utah State Attorney Generals Office.)

The complaint was really only an excuse, as they took everything before they had even opened an investigation. In essence, my art has been taken because the local police believe that they have the right to do anything they want to, anyone they want… They are the judge, jury and executioner. There is no innocent until proven guilty - There’s just guilty and more guilty… And my husband, Doc has a tape of them telling him so.

This is not the first unfair dealings we have had with the American Fork Police Department. A detailed summary of these situations is posted here - http://docloco.com/2008/01/14/happy-valley-tattoo-massacre-part-3/

Mean while in a Salt Lake City Weekly article I read that Utah has the highest rate of online porn use in the United States. Which only confirms my suspicions, that I am a victim of American Fork’s Police Departments idea of what Utah’s “community standards” are; which is literally HYPOCRICY!

I know that there are plenty of members of the community who would disagree with their actions. Some have stopped by the shop to tell us so and some have called the police and voiced their objections.

  • City of American Fork 1-801–763-3000
  • Police Chief – Lance Call 1-801–763-3020
  • City Attorneys - Kasey Wright (Civil) 1-801-763-3031
  • Tucker Hansen (Criminal) 1-801-224-2273

Here are thumbnails of the two pieces being held captive.

You be the judge… Take a look and tell me…

Should prospective tattoo clients be subjected to such “inappropriate” pieces of art as these? Would seeing these pieces “damage” a minor?

Lawrenceburg Indiana SWAT get wrong house!

Posted in Police Stupidity, Videos on November 21st, 2007

Indiana tax dollars well spent on a bunch of idiots!

watch the video on CNN here

A SWAT team raids the wrong home in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, and now the homeowner wants some answers.

Police said they were led to the Village Apartments on the trail of fugitive Sean Deaton.

Convinced he was inside apartment 407G, the Lawrenceburg SWAT unit surrounded the building.

“It looked like they were ready to go to war,” one neighbor said. “Some of the ones out here had AR15’s and shotguns.”

Neighbors said police spent hours ordering Deaton to surrender.

But when that didn’t work, they responded with tear gas and forced entry.

“It looked like my apartment was on fire. The smoke was just blowing out of my windows,” Kayla Irwin, the tenant of 407G said.

Irwin, a single mother of two, said she is unable to live in her apartment and didn’t even know the man police were searching for.

Now, she said, she has been left with the mess and no apology.

“It’s all covered with poison. I don’t know where to start over with two kids,” said Irwin. “How do you start with replacing the items that your kids have had since the day they were born?”

She said one of her pet guinea pigs was also killed during the incident.

Neighbors said the police action was simply overkill.

“Overpowered. In my opinion it looked like they were enjoying what they were doing. They did not need to do all this,” Emanuel Brightwell, an Iraq veteran and neighbor said.

Irwin said she appealed to the police, but hasn’t gotten anywhere.

“They basically just said, sorry for the inconvenience. Go ahead and clean it up. Clean up our mess,” Irwin said.

She said she’s had to borrow everything from family in the week since the incident.

She also said she can’t stay in the apartment because of the acrid gas residue.

An assistant chief and another officer were at the Village Apartments talking to Irwin telling her that they would try to get some money so she could clean her clothes and furnishing on her own.

“This is the first time this has happened. I’m surprised the incident has not been remedied. We will take care of it the best we can,” the assistant chief said.

Until the incident is remedied, the manager of the apartment complex said he has put Irwin, her kids and her pets in another apartment.

Police lose 45 Pounds Of Marijuana in Florida

Posted in Uncategorized, Police Stupidity on October 13th, 2007

LAKE COUNTY, Fla.

A drug sting mix-up allowed 45 pounds of marijuana to slip away from the cops who were tracking it.

Drug dogs sniffed out a combined total of 100 pounds of marijuana in two separate shipments that came into Orlando Sanford International Airport and Leesburg Regional Airport. Seminole and Lake County deputies allowed the drugs to get to their intended destination with plans to make a big bust, but somehow one of the shipments got away.

The sting operation didn’t happen exactly as deputies had planned.

“What happened right here, I don’t know, because I’m working all the time right here,” said Geraldo Overa.

Overa watched as his boss, Rigoberto Arvizu, was taken down for drug trafficking on Monday. Investigators said the first 55 pounds of marijuana were delivered to Rigo’s Custom Auto in Mount Dora. Knowing it would be delivered there, deputies staked out the site and pulled Arvizu’s car over nearby.

“Only police coming right here and check everything in this place. They never talked to me for anything,” Overa said.

But when it came time to intercept the second package, things didn’t go as planned. At an undisclosed location, cops set up sting number two, but were surprised when several cars showed up at the drug delivery point.

“A short while after the delivery of the package, there was a flurry of activity. A couple of vehicles came into the area and left shortly after. One vehicle took off through an orange grove and apparently that’s the vehicle that had the second package containing the marijuana,” explained Sgt. John Herrell, Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a police report, Guillermo Herrera was warned about the first bust and apparently took precautions. Herrera was still arrested, but someone got away with 45 pounds of marijuana, drugs that may now be on Lake County streets.

“We like to get all the bad guys, all the drugs 100 percent of the time, but that’s not always gonna be the case,” Herrell said.

So with two arrests, including three loaded firearms, investigators are hopeful they can locate the missing car and its driver, whether the drugs will be found is anyone’s guess.

Officers 19-year-old gf breaks up with him so he guns down Ex and 5 others

Posted in Police Stupidity, Civilian Deaths on October 7th, 2007

Six people and a shooter are dead after an off duty sheriff’s deputy who also worked as a police officer goes on a shooting spree in Crandon in far northern Wisconsin. The gunman, Tyler Peterson, who was 20, was apparently motivated by jealousy.

Witnesses say Peterson’s 19-year-old girlfriend had recently ended their relationship. It appears that she is among the victims, who range in age from 14 to 20. It appears the victims include two current students at Crandon High School and four recent graduates of the school.

Peterson was apparently on the run for a time. Crandon’s mayor, Gary Bradley, says it appears the suspect was killed by a sniper’s bullet.

Police Chief John Dennee read a short statement Sunday evening. “At approximately 2:47 AM, a city of Crandon police officer responded to gunshots at a residence in the city of Crandon. At this point there are six deceased in that residence. The subject was located by law enforcement officers, the subject is deceased and is no longer a threat to the public.” Authorities aren’t saying much more, but do confirm that Peterson was a sheriff’s deputy and a part time police officer in Crandon.

“This has been a very tragic evening,” said Forest County Supervisor Tom Vollmar. “It’s affected probably every family in this community.”

The whole neighborhood was still on lockdown Sunday. “Nobody expected anything like this,” Vollmar said. “I guess nobody anywhere ever does.”

Karly Johnson, 16, She said she knew the suspect and he helped her in a tech education class.

“He graduated with my brother,” she said. “He was nice. He was an average guy. Normal. You wouldn’t think he could do that.”

Jenna Bradley, 16, said she was told about 10 people were at a party at the ex-girlfriend’s apartment at the time of the shooting. She said she was shocked.

“It’s Crandon. Nothing happens in Crandon, ever,” she said.

Justin Tokarczyk, 17, said he was angry that someone in law enforcement was involved.

“You figured he would be here for safety,” Tokarczyk said. “I don’t know how anybody could think about doing that.”

Thirty-nine-year-old Jenny Stahl says one of the dead was her 14-year-old daughter, Lindsey Stahl. She says her daughter called last night and asked if she could sleep over at a friend’s house.

Texas Officer Shot Himself, Then Lied About It

Posted in Police Stupidity, Texas police on September 13th, 2007

SAN ANTONIO

A Northside Independent School District police officer shot himself and then lied to San Antonio police about how he suffered the gunshot wounds, police officials said.

According to a San Antonio Police Department news release, NISD Police Officer Patrick Ritchey reported that he was on routine patrol at Lackland City Elementary at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday when he found some fresh graffiti on the wall of the school building.

Ritchey reported that he confronted two people, who attacked the officer and fought over his weapon, police said.

The officer told police that he was shot twice through his bullet-proof vest and the two people got away on foot, police said.

An investigation by the SAPD’s Shooting Team revealed that the gunshots were self-inflicted, police said.

Ritchey was transported to Wilford Hall Hospital, where he was listed in good condition.

The officer was apparently have marital problems, police said.

Charges against Ritchey will be determined after the case is forwarded to the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office for consideration.
